There’s a very credible argument for Navy’s inclusion in the final Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Top 25 polls on the (Annapolis) Capital’s Navy Sports blog.
Here’s a taste of why Navy belongs:
* Won 10 games for just the third time in school history. The 10 wins are tied for the 12th most wins in the country.
* Two of Navy’s four losses were to teams that will most likely finish in the Top 10 (Ohio State and Pittsburgh). Another loss came against bowl-bound Temple when Navy played without star quarterback Ricky Dobbs.
* Defeated three bowl teams (Air Force, SMU and Missouri). Air Force and SMU won their bowl games, while Navy blew out Missouri, 35-13, in the Texas Bowl.
