Not to be outdone by Sports Illustrated’s naming of Derek Jeter as its 2009 Sportsman of the Year, the Air Force named Capt. Ian Holt its 2009 Male Athlete of the Year and Master Sgt. Karrie Warren the 2009 Female Athlete of the Year.

Holt, a missile combat crew commander at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo., was selected Road Captain for the 2009 U.S. Armed Forces Cycling Team and led the team to a 13th place finish in the CISM International Military World Road Race Championship, their best ever. He won the Denver and Trexlertown Rodale Park Criteriums. Holt also placed 16th at the 2009 CISM Time Trials and the 2009 U.S. Elite Road Race National Championship.

Warren, an aerospace control/warning system craftsman at Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., led the Air Force women’s softball team to the Armed Forces Women’s Softball Championship titles in 2008 and 2009. She was named to the Armed Forces All Tournament Team. Warren helped lead the Tyndall Softball Team to second place in the 2009 Military World Tournament.
