Former Army pitching ace Nick Hill is back on the mound this spring, continuing his quest to be a major league pitcher — which would make him the first West Point grad to play in majors.

Hill, a 2007 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy, took part in Seattle Mariners spring training before going back down to the minors March 10. On Saturday he tossed three no-hit innings for the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx, the Mariners’ AA affiliate. Last season Hill led West Tennessee in strikeouts with 100.

The good people at the
Times Herald-Record caught up with Hill in an article on Monday. The Army Reserve first lieutenant said it’s “out of his hands” whether he makes it to the majors, and said he was thrilled at the chance practice with the Mariners.

“It was fun, a great opportunity,” Hill told the Times Herald-Record. “The biggest thing was to see how a professional acts.”
