Tulsa head coach and former Naval Academy standout Doug Wojcik appears to be on Iowa’s short list to be next basketball coach for the Hawkeyes, at least according to one blog.
From chicagonow.com:
Iowa is also looking for a new coach after firing Todd Lickliter and appears to be looking for a lower priced alternative after paying big money to Lickliter in his settlement. Sources confirmed to me on Wednesday night that Iowa is talking to Dayton’s Brian Gregory, Tulsa’s Doug Wojcik, Utah’s Jim Boylan, and Wright State’s Brad Brownell. Three of the candidates (Gregory, Wojcik, and Boylan) all worked as assistants at Michigan State for Tom Izzo.
Wojcik has been at Tulsa since 2005-2006. He previously was an assistant at Navy, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Michigan State. He led the Golden Hurricane to the NIT the past two seasons, and won the CBI tournament in 2007-2008.
Lickliter was fired after posting three consecutive sub-.500 seasons at Iowa.
Wojcik is best remembered by Navy fans for being a key part of the Mids brilliant run of three straight NCAA tournament appearances from 1985-1987. He’s Navy’s all-time leader in career assists and assists in a season. Last year he was one of 25 players named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s Silver Anniversary Team.
