Navy senior left tackle Matt Molloy sustained his fifth career concussion during Saturday’s loss to Air Force and will not play again this season, The (Annapolis) Capital is reporting.
Molloy took a knee to the helmet against the Falcons and laid motionless on the field for a few minutes before walking to the sidelines. He had missed the previous two Navy games after suffering a concussion in the season opener against Maryland.
“Matt is done. He’s a great young man and we’re going to miss him on the field, but for the longevity of Matt as a person… this is the best thing for him,” Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo told The Capital. Niumatalolo said Molloy will stay with the team as a student coach.
