Army Lt. Caleb Campbell has been signed to the Detroit Lions’ 53-man roster and has made the trip with the team to Dallas for their matchup with the Cowboys, the Detroit Free Press is reporting. Campbell will be active for the game and likely will see time on special teams.
Campbell, a 2008 West Point graduate, is the second service academy graduate to play in the NFL this season. Chad Hall, a 2008 graduate of the Air Force Academy, was promoted from the Eagles practice squad earlier this season, and has appeared in three games.
Campbell served two years on active duty before being released from his five-year committment last summer. He signed a contract with the Lions and has been a member of Detroit’s practice squad since being cut from the team at the end of the preseason.
Both the Lions and Cowboys enter Sunday’s game at 2-7.
