Three quick hits for Navy football fans, who are now 44 days away from a season-opener on the Emerald Isle:
1. About that opener … ESPN.com breaks down the Navy-Notre Dame game as part of its series on Fighting Irish opponents this season. It’s an excellent at-a-glance look at the 2012 Navy program, including some comments from Andrea Adelson, ESPN’s Big East football blogger. She breaks down Navy’s chances and addresses the self-inflicted wounds that cost the Mids a number of close games in 2011.
Navy fans probably should get used to reading Adelson’s stuff now, before the Big East move in 2015; it seems to alternate between in-depth coverage, heart-tugging features like this one about a Temple quarterback honoring his soldier-father, and emails from rabid, often-unhinged Big East football and basketball fans. Conference fever — catch it.
2. The rest of the way. Athlon Sports ranks the Mids 65th in the nation in its college football preview magazine, according to the Navy athletics website. Athlon offers a handy statistical breakdown of the the team here. The longtime sports-marketing group projects the Mids will face Utah in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl — the same place football guru Phil Steele put them, only Steele has them facing Cal-Berkeley.
3. Plebes in place. With Induction Day here and gone, the academy just recently released its full football roster, freshmen included.
