After a series of pro-Army spirit spots — including an inspirational message from Oakland Raider icon Otis Sistrunk, of all people — we wanted to include a few clips from the sea service, in the interest of equal time.
1. A Mac-vs.-PC commercial parody.
Pro: Possible spirit spot line-of-the-year candidate from the actor portraying an Army cadet: “I can’t hear you, I’m too busy marching.”
Con: As Navy Times Prime readers know, the Windows-loving fleet is the last place you’d think to look for a Mac.
2. Warship vs. Army mascot, Take I.
Pro: You don’t often see a spirit spot with a director’s cut.
Con: Spoiler alert — who approved the mule’s visit to the cruiser Gettysburg in the first place? Who left the mule unsupervised near the inspection report? Is the Navy inspector general looking into any of this?
3. Warship vs. Army mascot, Take II.
Pro: Special effects and score are near-“Battleship” quality, including a flying stuffed goat. Bravo Zulu to the destroyer Forrest Sherman’s production team.
Con: Acting is near-“Battleship” quality. And Liam Neeson and Rihanna are nowhere to be found.
4. CNO’s message.
Pro: Some serious star power — Bill the Goat! Also, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jon Greenert.
Con: Is that a field pass on CNO’s belt? Is that part of the standard-issue uniform? Also, does the CNO need a field pass? Ever?
If you’ve produced a spot from either side, or have just seen one we’ve missed, feel free to leave a link in the comments section. The spots will only get stranger as the game approaches.
