Navy Reserve Lt. j.g. Joe Cardona will be staying put at his day job. The 2015 Naval Academy graduate has signed a four-year contract to remain the New England Patriots long snapper, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss and other reports. Drafted in the fifth round by the Pats in 2015, Cardona’s been the team’s long snapper ever since, making two Super Bowl appearances. He spoke to Military Times about his first title, where he ended up a spectator for one of the greatest sports comebacks ever: After snapping for Steven Gostkowski’s successful 33-yard field goal with less than 10 minutes left…

CBS will not be messing with a good thing. The network, which has seen ratings skyrocket for its award-winning airings of Army-Navy football, will keep the game’s kickoff at 3 p.m. Eastern this year, per a news release announcing part of the CBS college football schedule. The Black Knights and Midshipmen will square off Dec. 8 in Philadelphia. It will be the second time Navy appears on CBS in 2018, as the Mids will face Navy in San Diego at 8 p.m. Eastern on Oct. 27 in the second half of a CBS college football doubleheader. Florida faces Georgia that…

The Commander in Chief’s Trophy hasn’t settled into its new home and the folks in Annapolis haven’t finished rolling up the presidential welcome mat, but that won’t stop oddsmakers from having their say on the 2018 Army-Navy rivalry game. The South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas released early lines for some of college football’s biggest games May 24, including the Dec. 8 service academy showdown. It’s the last game on the list — 15 weeks into the college football season, which won’t start for another three months — and the Mids are booked as one-point favorites. This goes…

Former Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds — who scored the most rushing touchdowns in top-tier college football history and went 4-0 as a starter for the Mids against Army — reportedly will continue his pursuit of an NFL career by way of Seattle. Per multiple reports, Reynolds will attempt to catch on with the Seahawks as a wideout and a kick returner. The Baltimore Ravens drafted him in the sixth round in 2016, but he didn’t make the roster and spent the last two seasons on practice squads with the Ravens and Washington Redskins. Reynolds went straight from Annapolis into the…

The Navy Midshipmen football team will maintain a national television presence for its home games for the next decade, thanks to a 10-year extension with CBS Sports Network. Terms of the deal weren’t announced; per news releases issued by Navy Athletics and the network, it covers the “majority” of Navy’s home games. A separate deal already on the books puts every Army West Point home game on the network until 2022. The deal doesn’t change the Army-Navy broadcast, which remains on CBS-TV. It also doesn’t mean service academy football fans can rip the buttons off their remote controls: Away and…

Army West Point (2-8) concludes its home schedule Saturday (noon…

For the first time this season, all three Commander in Chief’s Trophy contenders will play home games on the same day: Army West Point hosting Tulane at Michie Stadium, Air Force battling Utah State in Colorado Springs, and Navy facing Southern Methodist in Annapolis, the newly minted hip-hop capital of Maryland. Six things you should know about a home-cooked Saturday afternoon: 1. Navy and the CFP. After the Mids’ 45-20 upset win over Memphis last weekend, Navy found itself 20th in the College Football Playoff rankings, which will determine the four semifinalists that compete for the national championship and will set…

A day before one of the biggest weekends on the service academy football calendar, take in a trio of tidbits about the biggest weekend: 1. Spirit spot contest. Need tickets for this year’s game? You can submit your video to armynavyfootballgame@gmail.com; a Go Army and a Go Navy winner each will receive four tickets, four on-field passes and a parking pass for the Dec. 12 showdown in Philadelphia. Not familiar with the genre? Click on some of our reviews from last year’s spots. The…

The Black Knights and Falcons square off in Colorado Springs while the Midshipmen look to play spoiler on the national college football stage — here are six things you should know before Saturday’s service academy gridiron action kicks off: 1. Rivalry rout? Air Force (5-3, 4-1 Mountain West Conference) enters Saturday’s showdown with Army West Point (2-6) as a 17.5-point favorite and can become bowl-eligible with a victory. The Black Knights would need to win every game left on their regular-season slate to finish .500 and reach the postseason, and they’d have to start on the Falcons’ home turf (3:30 p.m.…

Service academy football kicks off at noon Saturday and won’t end until well past midnight on the East Coast. On tap: A rivalry renewed, a conference clash under the lights, and Blue Devils visiting West Point who aren’t hanging out with this guy, for a change. Six quick hits as the weekend nears: 1. A little respect. What do you get a significant other to mark your 88th anniversary? Matching Under Armour, apparently. Navy and Notre Dame will continue college football’s longest continuous intersectional (outside a conference) rivalry on Saturday in South Bend, Indiana (3:30 p.m. Eastern, NBC), and both teams will…
