Apparently $1 billion only buys a face for radio. Yes, three days after the Navy introduced it’s newest toy, ESPN radio personalities Mike and Mike will board the USS New York to do their morning show Tuesday. The two radio hosts, Mike Golic and Mike Greenberg, will broadcast their show 6-10 a.m. EST on ESPN radio. And yes, the amphibious transport dock will get some TV time on ESPN2 as the radio show is also broadcast on those airways. It is part of ESPN’s week long effort to honor veterans. The self-described worldwide leader in sports brought their College Gameday…

That, ladies and gentlemen, is a win worthy of crowing about. Navy eeked out its second win in three years over No. 22 Notre Dame on Saturday, beating the Fighting Irish 23-21 on the strength of Craig Schaefer’s sack for a safety on (onetime) Heisman Trophy hopeful Jimmy Clausen in the end zone with 60 seconds left in the game. The win had several effects. First, it kills any chance that Notre Dame will make a BCS bowl this year. Second, it serves as another probable nail in the coffin of Charlie Weis’ career in South Bend, Ind. Fun times!…

1. Navy (6-2): It wasn’t pretty Saturday, but a win in a driving rain storm against an ACC opponent is a win, right? The Midshipmen’s starting quarterback, sophomore Kriss Proctor, made his first start, but didn’t attempt a pass the whole game. Turns out the Middies did  not need him to beat the Demon Deacons in the regular season for the second straight year. Fullback Vince Murray ran for a career high 175 yards to help take the pressure off his young quarterback. Air Force made a run with their upset bid against a top-25 opponent this weekend, but so…

Navy sophomore quarterback Kriss Proctor will start over Ricky Dobbs this Saturday. Dobbs didn’t practice Thursday and will be out against Wake Forest. Dobbs hasn’t practiced all week after he re-aggravated a knee injury he suffered in high school after he took a hit against Southern Methodist University last weekend. He didn’t come out of the game and played through the pain, but the knee stiffened up this week. This will be Proctor’s first collegiate start. He played towards the end of the Rice blowout and scored three touchdowns.

If you think the Marine Corps Marathon is tough, try kicking up clouds of sand as you run 3,000 feet above sea level. That’s exactly what Maj. Lauren Edwards, who is assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 2 at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, and her fellow All-Marine Running Teammate, 1st Lt. Erin Demchko, have been training to do. After months of grueling training, Demchko returned to the U.S. last month, but Edwards remained behind working with Brigade headquarters Group, 5th Battalion, 10th Marines to receive approval for a satellite Marine Corps Marathon at Camp Leatherneck. Looks like her wish was granted. From…

Nick Hill may never make the major leagues, but he’s already getting a fair amount of media exposure. A 2007 West Point graduate pitching in the Seattle Mariners farm system, he has been interviewed frequently during the last two years, as his future with the baseball and military became clear. Hill, of course, is one of several officer-athletes who were caught in the middle when the Army decided in July 2008 to drop its Alternative Service Options program, a plan launched in 2005 to allow West Point and ROTC graduates with professional sports contracts to play immediately after graduation. The policy said…

Expectations skyrocketed after Army beat Vanderbilt in overtime Oct. 10. While its football program doesn’t equate to the Floridas and the Alabamas, Vanderbilt is still a member of the Southeastern Conference, and following a win over the Commodores, realistic bowl talk popped up in discussions amongst West Pointers for the first time in years. The Black Knights haven’t played in a bowl game since it lost to Auburn in the 1996 Liberty Bowl. Unfortunately the equation to earn a bowl bid this year got tougher after wasting a golden opportunity this Saturday in Philadelphia against a beatable Temple Owls team.…

Say hello to Saint Louis Rams cheerleaders Jayne, Michele, Megan, Kate and Mary Beth, who performed for 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines at Forward Operating Base Delaram, Afghanistan. While touring the base, the girls visited the mortar pits, attempted to carry a Marines combat load and hung out with Weapons Company scout snipers where they got to view the city of Delaram through high powered rifle scopes. After the tour, the cheerleaders performed for the Marines, but they also got to see a show of their own as Marines tried to one-up each other for “best touchdown dance” in the hopes…
