The (Colorado Springs) Gazette has published the always-fascinating service assignments for the 17 Air Force football seniors from the 2010 team. Seven players, including fullback Jared Tew, will be headed to pilot training after they get commissioned. The next-most-common assignment was acquisitions. First-team all-MWC cornerback Reggie Rembert will be staying at the academy to help coach the JV football team. Aside from Rembert, 2nd-team MWC offensive lineman Chase Darden, linebacker Andre Morris and running back Ryan Southworth will also be serving as coaches, with all three getting assigned to the USAFA Prep School. Unfortunately After Action doesn’t have the travel budget to fly our faithful correspondents to each of the service academy’s bowl games. Thus, I’ll let the journalists who were in attendance provide the game stories. Click here, here or here for a wrap up of Air Force’s 14-7 win last night over Georgia Tech in the Independence Bowl. Like most of you, though, I was glued to my TV despite the protests from my fiance who doesn’t understand how there can be so many bowl games. Anyways, here are some thoughts on the game. — Air Force quarterback Tim Jefferson…
Air Force defensive back Jon Davis definitely picked the right place to go to school. Davis and teammate Jared Tew will be featured in an episode of CBS College Sports’ “Inside Academy Football” on Tuesday. Davis goes to Tyndall Air Force and takes his first ride in an F-15 on the show and, judging by the preview below, he loved every second of it. A junior, Davis was named Mountain West Player of the Week earlier this year for his performance in the Falcons’ win against Wyoming. Tew, a senior fullback for the Falcons, takes the controls of a T-52A…
Air Force’s road game at San Diego State this past weekend was supposed to be a warm-up before it faced two top-10 teams, No. 4 TCU and No. 9 Utah, in consecutive weekends. Instead, the trip turned into a debacle. Led by a freshman running back who rushed for 191 yards, San Diego State upset the then-No. 23 Falcons 27-25. To make matters worse, Air Force lost starting fullback Jared Tew for the rest of the regular season after possibly breaking his fibula in the first quarter. Outside of quarterback Tim Jefferson, Tew was probably the player the Falcons could…
Air Force is now leading Houston 14-0, courtesy of a Jared Tew six-yard touchdown run, which capped a six-play, 63-yard drive. The drive was set up by an Air Force interception of a deflected pass. As I type, Houston is going for it on 4th and 3 and … Air Force intercepts another Case Keenum pass. Senior defensive back Chris Thomas grabbed another deflected pass to kill the Cougars’ drive. Air Force starts their drive at their own 47-yard line with 7:06 left to go in the first quarter. Update: Houston’s got the ball back again after an Air Force…
