It’s June, still two months before the 2010 college football season starts, but anytime a service academy gets ranked above Notre Dame, After Action will boast about it. Sure, sure, we know Navy and Air Force ended last season ranked higher than Notre Dame, but it’s still fun to kick a dog when it’s down. Lindy’s isn’t ESPN or Sports Illustrated, but it’s still a respected sports magazine. They released their 2010 pre-season rankings with Navy 44th and Notre Dame 49th. Lindy’s rankings also predict a relatively easy schedule for the Midshipmen — with Notre Dame being the highest-ranked team…

The New Orleans Saints released fullback Kyle Eckel on Wednesday. The former Naval Academy star was signed by the team in October after an injury to starter Heath Evans. Eckel¬† played in five games and had a total of six yards rushing on two carries. He was the only service academy graduate on the roster of an NFL team this season. A 2005 graduate of the academy, Eckel was booted from the service in 2006 and began his NFL career. He had his best pro season in 2007 with the New England Patriots, carrying the ball 33 times and scoring…

Well, maybe not, but since this is the game that truly matters for these two academies and their teams, I say it’s time for After Action to start hyping this baby up. USAA’s official Army-Navy game site is up and running, and it’s pretty sweet. The site is loaded with facts and information on the teams and the rivalry, including an interactive timeline showing the results and a recap of every single…

Longtime Washington Post columnist Thomas Boswell gives some love to the Navy football team and star quarterback Ricky Dobbs in Saturday’s Post. Boswell notes in his lede that Dobbs is just one touchdown short of the NCAA record for TDs in a season by a quarterback. The record, 23, is held by Florida’s Tim Tebow and former Air Force QB Chance Harridge. Since Dobbs still has two games left — against Hawaii and Army, both not exactly defensive juggernauts — it’s very likely Dobbs will soon enter the NCAA record book. Until I read Boswell’s column, I didn’t quite realize…
