NFL stars are doing more in Hawaii this week than catching rays and suiting up for a defense-optional exhibition game at Aloha Stadium. The Pro Bowlers have a full slate of community outreach activities, including a practice on Thursday at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The event — open only to military families with base access, according to the base newspaper — will include both the AFC and the NFC squads working out at Earhart Field, which has been undergoing improvements since early December. USAA, which has chipped in for some of the field work, also is providing 1,000 tickets to…

For former Marine and current Tennessee Titans fullback Ahmard Hall, 2011 was a year to forget. Unfortunately for Hall, he literally has trouble remembering the very end of his season because of the concussion he sustained in fourth quarter of the Titans’ final game. Hall, who served in the Corps from 1998-2002, got clocked by Houston linebacker Tim Dobbins on an outside run with less than two minutes to play. Watch the play here. The force caused Hall spin in the air and fumble, with the Texans recovering. Hall told The Tennessean on Monday that he was “clearing up” but…

Former Air Force wide receiver Chad Hall scored his first and only touchdown of the 2011 NFL season on Sunday, and he did it in pretty impressive fashion. The Eagles wideout caught a pass from quarterback Michael Vick at the two-yard line and broke the tackles of two Washington Redskins — cornerback DeAngelo Hall (look closely, he gets earholed by Hall) and linebacker Perry Riley. A second-year pro, Hall finishes 2011 with three catches for 20 yards and the TD. He also ran the ball three times for 13 yards, and he had seven punt returns for 76 yards. Standard…

Multiple news outlets are reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles have released second-year wide receiver Chad Hall, a 2008 graduate of the Air Force Academy. The move comes as NFL teams are trimming their rosters down to 53 ahead of tonight’s 6 p.m. ET deadline. Hall led the Eagles in catches this preseason and scored a touchdown in the Eagles’ final game on Thursday. However, he also muffed two punts, losing one, in the victory against the Jets. In 2010 Hall appeared in eight games for the Eagles. He caught 11 passes for 115 yards including a touchdown in the final game…

Collin Mooney is going to get his shot. The second lieutenant stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma received a call from the Detroit Lions today inviting him to come up to Michigan for a workout, the Detroit News reported. “I’ve been waiting for two years now to get that call,” Mooney told the Detroit News.  “I’m very excited about it and I’m very appreciative that they’re giving me the opportunity. I just want to get in there and play a football game and see if I can make the team. If it doesn’t work out with Detroit, hopefully this is a…

The NFL lockout is over so ESPN can mercifully retire the same photo of the locked gate holding back the dirty snow we saw over and over and over again. But this also means our favorite former service academy stars can return to the field and NFL teams can invite recent graduates who will try to catch a coach’s eye before returning to active duty. Sure, this is probably the lazy way to go but let’s see what the players are up to via the Twittersphere now that the NFL’s has announced that football’s back and we can go back…

Sounds like NFL coaches currently visiting troops on a USO tour are getting an earful from the troops about the NFL lockout. “They were chanting, ‘End the lockout,’ this morning,” said former Atlanta and Seattle head coach Jim Mora, one of the coaches visiting the Middle East as part of a NFL-USO Coaches Tour. “Nine hundred-ninety out of 1,000 questions I get are about the lockout,” said Mora. “If they were holding negotiations over here, they’d be done. Every one of them (military members) wants to know if there’s going to be a season. ” Read the full story on…

Former Air Force standout and current Philadelphia Eagle wide receiver Chad Hall isn’t standing around waiting for the NFL lockout to be resolved. He needs money, like right now, so he’s taking some measures to maintain a decent income, ESPN’s Rick Reilly reports. First, Hall is offering his services as a personal trainer for his friends’ kids. But on the more adventuresome side, Hall is also looking into opening a wing joint in Atlanta with Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who happens to be dating Hall’s sister. And if the restaurant thing doesn’t work out, Hall may fall back on…

Former Army standout Caleb Campbell has been signed to the Detroit Lions 53-man roster, The Detroit Free Press is reporting. This marks the second time this season that Campbell, a linebacker, has been called up from the Lions practice squad. He was activated for Detroit’s game at Dallas on Nov. 21, but did not see any action in that game, a 35-19 loss. The Lions (3-10), who snapped a five-game losing streak last week in a win against Green Bay, travel to Tampa on Sunday to play the Bucs (8-5).

The Air Force Academy just issued statements from head coach Troy Calhoun and Athletic Director Hans Mueh in response to the rapid-fire rumors of Calhoun becoming the next Denver Broncos head coach. One Colorado radio station even reported that Calhoun is in contract negotiations with the Broncos. Calhoun says that’s not the case. “Our coaching staff and our families are proud to be a part of the daily lives of our nation’s future officers. We certainly look forward to seeing our seniors graduate in May along with coaching the Falcons in 2011 and beyond,” Calhoun said in the statement. Mueh…
