The NFL lockout is over so ESPN can mercifully retire the same photo of the locked gate holding back the dirty snow we saw over and over and over again. But this also means our favorite former service academy stars can return to the field and NFL teams can invite recent graduates who will try to catch a coach’s eye before returning to active duty. Sure, this is probably the lazy way to go but let’s see what the players are up to via the Twittersphere now that the NFL’s has announced that football’s back and we can go back…

The (Colorado Springs) Gazette has published the always-fascinating service assignments for the 17 Air Force football seniors from the 2010 team. Seven players, including fullback Jared Tew, will be headed to pilot training after they get commissioned. The next-most-common assignment was acquisitions. First-team all-MWC cornerback Reggie Rembert will be staying at the academy to help coach the JV football team. Aside from Rembert, 2nd-team MWC offensive lineman Chase Darden, linebacker Andre Morris and running back Ryan Southworth will also be serving as coaches, with all three getting assigned to the USAFA Prep School. See the full list here.
Air Force cornerback Reggie Rembert is gonna need a bigger trophy case. On top of other accolades he’s already received this year, the senior has now been voted to the prestigious Associated Press All-America Team. Rembert was selected to AP’s third team along with Stephon Gilmore, a freshman at South Carolina. TCU’s Tejay Johnson and Quinton Carter, both seniors, were the first-team All-America pics. Virginia Tech’s Jayron Hosley and Oregon’s Cliff Harris, both sophomores, made the second team at cornerback. In November, Rembert was voted first team All-America by the American Football Coaches Association. That was the first time any…
The number of college football All-America lists might just outnumber the reasons the BCS-bowl system is a crock, but it’s still an achievement anytime a service academy player’s name winds up on one. Air Force cornerback Reggie Rembert was named first-team All America by the American Football Coaches Association. Other names found on the first-team list include Auburn quarterback and Heisman Trophy shoe-in Cam Newton as well as Oregon running back LaMichael James, who leads the nation in rushing. Rembert led the Falcons with three interceptions this year. Not a gaudy statistic, but considering how rarely quarterbacks chose to throw…
It was a scary scene Saturday not just for Air Force cornerback Reggie Rembert’s senior season, but his future as an Air Force officer when we was carted off the field with a neck injury. Air Force coach Troy Calhoun said Rembert will undergo further neurological tests and said he was a “long shot” to play Saturday. Rembert’s replacement stepped in and held his own against Northwestern State, but BYU is not Northwestern State and the Falcons chances of pulling off the upset decrease dramatically if Rembert, who was voted to the All-Mountain West preaseason team, isn’t in there. After…
Falcons senior defensive back Reggie Rembert was taken off the field in a stretcher in the first quarter of today’s season opener against visiting Northwestern State, the victim of an apparent neck injury. The Associated Press reports that Rembert gave fans and teammates a thumbs-up while being carried off the field. Air Force won the game, 65-21, after leading by just three points at halftime (24-21). UPDATE @ 3:10 p.m.: AP reports that Rembert had feeling in all of his extremities. UPDATE @ 3:40 p.m.: Northwestern State offensive lineman Josh Cunningham has now been was taken off the field on…
The preseason accolades keep rolling in for Air Force cornerback Reggie Rembert and Navy quarterback Ricky Dobbs. Both were named to the first ever Hornung Award Watch List. Named after the former Green Bay Packer and Notre Dame halfback, kicker and safety, this award will be given to college football’s most versatile player. Rembert and Dobbs join 48 other players including Georgia Tech’s Josh Nesbitt and Ohio State’s Terrelle Pryor. It will be interesting to see who the first award goes to because as the name suggests there is quite a range of positions included on this watch list. Will…
Air Force’s Reggie Rembert just intercepted Houston’s Case Keenum to snuff out yet another Cougar drive. Keenum has now thrown a season-high five interceptions. He’s also only thrown for 203 yards so far today, a season low. Earlier this season he threw for 233 yards in a win over SMU. He might not get there today. There’s 5:54 left. Time for the Air Force rushing attack to salt this one away.
