Players graduate, coaches leave and presidents change. But each spring you can count on Navy’s football team to visit the White House to accept the Commander in Chief’s Trophy from the president. At least it seems that way. Navy swept Air Force and Army for the seventh straight year to earn the Commander in Chief trophy again, and on Monday the team and coach Ken Niumatalolo were recognized by President Obama at the White House. Obama praised captains Ross Pospisil and Osei Asante in his remarks, as well as quarterback Ricky Dobbs, who set an NCAA record for rushing touchdowns…

Quarterback Ricky Dobbs and safety Wyatt Middleton have been selected as captains of Navy’s football team next season, head coach Ken Niumatalolo announced last week. “It’s a great honor for Ricky and Wyatt to be elected team captains by their teammates and there is no doubt in my mind they will do a phenomenal job” Niumatalolo said. “They have been team leaders since the day they set foot on campus and I am confident they will provide great leadership on the field, in the classroom and in Bancroft Hall.” Dobbs was the engine of the Navy offense last season, leading…

It may not have the prestige of the AP All-America list, but Navy quarterback Ricky “Magic Man” Dobbs has been selected as an honorable mention All-American by College Football News. Dobbs has had  a season for the ages. Any time you knock a Heisman Trophy winner out of the record book, you’re doing something very well. Going into Navy’s Dec. 31 Texas Bowl matchup with Missouri, Dobbs has…

Longtime Washington Post columnist Thomas Boswell gives some love to the Navy football team and star quarterback Ricky Dobbs in Saturday’s Post. Boswell notes in his lede that Dobbs is just one touchdown short of the NCAA record for TDs in a season by a quarterback. The record, 23, is held by Florida’s Tim Tebow and former Air Force QB Chance Harridge. Since Dobbs still has two games left — against Hawaii and Army, both not exactly defensive juggernauts — it’s very likely Dobbs will soon enter the NCAA record book. Until I read Boswell’s column, I didn’t quite realize…
