Vermont Army National Guard Sgt. Jeremy Teela finished ninth out of 88 competitors in the 10-kilometer biathlon sprint Sunday at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Teela, who finished in 25:21.7, turned in the highest-ranking finish in Olympic history by an American biathlete. He benefited from an early start in the event, which was hit by heavy snow as the day wore on.

France’s Vincent Jay won the gold medal with a time of 24:07.8.

This is the third Olympics for Teela, a 13-year Guard vet and a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program.
