MMA reporter Ben Folkes has written an outstanding article about the psyche of UFC fighter Pat Barry heading into his bout Saturday at Fight For the Troops 2 at Fort Hood, Texas.
Barry, who’ll be facing off against fellow heavyweight Joey Beltran, is refreshingly honest in the story, admitting that he’s less-than-enthusiastic about stepping into the Octagon after breaking his right hand and right foot against Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 115. Rather than offering up phony bluster or canned lines about what he expects to happen Saturday, Barry talks about the unglamorous brutality of the sport and the anxiety that comes before a fight.
The best line of the article, however, comes when Barry describes some of the issues he encountered while dealing with his broken hand.
“I don’t know about you, but I had to go six, seven weeks wiping my a– with my left hand. I don’t ever want to experience that again. That’s impossible.”
This is a good ice-breaker for any of you Hood soldiers that might get to meet Barry.
