Down by 12 at halftime, the Navy women’s basketball team rallied and took down visiting American 47-40 to win the 2011 Patriot League Tournament. Navy freshman Jade Geif was named tournament MVP,  notching 16 points and 10 rebound in the title game.

The victory earned them their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since joining Division I in 1991. The Mids learn their fate tonight when the selections are announced at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.

The last time a service academy women’s basketball team made the tourney was in 2006, when the late Maggie Dixon led Army to an improbable Patriot League crown. The Cadets, a #16 seed, were eliminated in the first round.

The Air Force women’s team, which has only been in Division I since 1996, has never made the tournament. The Falcons twice made the D-II tournament, in 1985 and 1990.
