For the second straight year, Army football will play a game on the big-money diamond-turned-gridiron of Yankee Stadium.
The Black Knights will take on the BigEast’s Rutgers Scarlet Knights Nov. 12 at 3:30 p.m. Army lost to Notre Dame, 27-3, last year at the stadium. The original Yankee Stadium, in existence until 2009, hosted many memorable football games, including the 1928 Army-Notre Dame matchup.
It was that game in which legendary Notre Dame coach Knute Rockne urged his team to “win one for the Gipper,” referring to All-American George Gipp, who was dying of an infection at the time. The Irish won, 12-6.
Tickets are still available for the Army-Rutgers game, going for $40-$125 at http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1D0046BBAEDB41BB?did=mlb
