Sure, the game’s more than a week away, but the trash talking has started on both sides and will be in full effect well before kickoff. It’s not always a good idea to let facts get in the way of a good rivalry game, but for those curious, here’s four quick hits: 1. QB question: Army’s official depth chart lends no hits on the health of junior quarterback Trent Steelman, who injured his knee in a 42-14 loss at Temple on Nov. 19. Steelman shares top billing with freshman Angel Santiago, who’s played in four games this season and completed…

But ESPN3 will carry the game online with Scott Graham and Rob Harley in the booth. The Black Knights rolled…

Vince Lombardi will be forever linked to the NFL trophy that bears his name and the Wisconsin city where he crafted his NFL legacy. While the legend of Lombardi may begin in Green Bay, his time in football didn’t. When Army hosts Fordham on Saturday at West Point, two schools that helped shape the coach’s career square off in what would’ve been a marquee matchup when Lombardi was on the college gridiron. Lombardi was a member of the “Seven Blocks of Granite,” a nickname given to Fordham’s linemen in the 1929 and 1930 seasons and again in 1936-37. The second…
Navy, at 5-0, and Army, at 4-1, reside at the top of this week’s Collegiate Sprint Football League standings. The CSFL, which includes teams from Army, Navy, Mansfield University (Pa.), Post University (Conn.), Cornell, Princeton and Penn, has been in existence since 1934. Sprint football is played just like regular football. But sprint players must adhere to strict weight and body fat standards to be eligible to play. According to the league website, a player must weigh 172 lbs. or less, have 5 percent body fat or greater and urine specific gravity less than or equal to 1.020. Football fundamentals…
The longest string of consecutive starts by an Army quarterback in school history could end Saturday. Junior signal-caller Trent Steelman has started every game since arriving at West Point in 2009. But Saturday’s start No. 32, in a 44-21 loss to Vanderbilt, ended early thanks to an ankle injury shortly before halftime. Second on the team in rushing (behind sophomore Raymond Maples) and second to Kansas State’s Collin Klein in rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (Klein has 14, Steelman 11), the junior’s not atop the Army depth chart for Saturday’s home game against Fordham. Steelman’s not even listed as a…
Air Force and Navy’s football rivalry could reach a new level as a result of the ongoing conference shake up — their annual meeting could have conference implications in the Big East race. The Associated Press and ESPN reporter Andy Katz are reporting the Big East is targeting the two service academies to join the conference after Pittsburgh and Syracuse announced they’d leave the Big East for the Atlantic Coast Conference. Each would receive a football-only invitation, saving their respective basketball teams the collective embarrassment of playing in the juggernaut hoops conference — not to mention saving the Air Force…
[Brightcove video=”901736440001″ /] Since 1993, White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico has held the Bataan Memorial Death March, an annual marathon honoring those who defended the Philippine Islands during World War II. April 9 marked the 69th anniversary of the original tragedy when 75,000 American and Filipino service members surrendered to Japanese forces. The POWs were forced on a deadly 50+ mile march out of Bataan peninsula and were subjected to brutal treatment, starvation, and the Japanese soldiers shooting and bayoneting anyone that was too weak to keep up the pace of the march. Last weekend, some of the…
