By all accounts Lt. Caleb Campbell is struggling to catch up with the speed of the NFL while also trying to learn a new position in his first NFL training camp. Drafted out of West Point as a safety two years ago, Lions defensive coordinator Gunther Cunningham has moved Campbell to weak side linebacker. Fellow linebacker Zack Follet, who was on the receiving end last year, said Campbell is getting an earful from Cunningham. “I definitely would not wish that on anybody,” Follett told Mlive.com. “Caleb Campbell is in the exact same position as I was last year. He’s a…

For those who have wondered where former Army football coach Bob Sutton ended up after he left West Point, you can watch him Wednesday nights on HBO. Sutton has served as the defense coordinator or linebackers coach on the New York Jets after he left Army’s football team in 2000. This summer he stars along foul-mouthed head coach Rex Ryan on HBO’s NFL training camp reality series “Hard Knocks.” Sutton doesn’t have the memorable lines that Ryan delivered on the series premiere and he doesn’t receive the same spotlight as Darrelle Revis’ contract dispute, but it’s good to see the…
It has been three days since the Black Knights turned the lacrosse world upside down and people are still trying to make sense of Army’s collosal upset over Syracuse. How was this possible? Following the tragedy in Charlottesville, Va., Syracuse, which had been ranked No.1 earlier this year, had to be considered by many as the favorite. The Orange have played dominant lacrosse all year, including a convincing victory over the Black Knights earlier this year when senior attackman Chris Daniello and junior attackman Stephen Keogh each tallied four goals. It was the second of four straight losses for Army,…
[brightcove video=”70038411001″ /] Inspired by the 2010 Winter Olympics in Canada, deployed service members in Iraq and Afghanistan held their own athletic competitions. At COB Speicher in Iraq, U.S. Division North held a “biathlon” for 40 soldiers, one sailor and one airman. The event had them run 3.7 miles out to a firing range where they had to shoot for score and then the same distance back to the finish line at COB Speicher. They were scored by a combination of run-time and their shooting score. The event was won by: • Spc. Douglas Long (US), Male Winner, 2/25th AVN…
Sgt. Jeremy Teela will race and shoot in his final biathlon event today at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Teela and three teammates from Team USA will compete in the men’s 4×7.5 kilometer relay, which begins at 11:30 a.m. PST. Unfortunately the race will not be televised live, at least not where I live. You may want to check NBC’s site to be sure about your location. The U.S. has never medaled in a biathlon event at the Olympics. However Teela, a member of the Vermont National Guard and the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program, had the best-ever finish…
Too early for Army-Navy talk? Nonsense! So what if Navy still has one more game left before playing Army. From now until Dec. 12, it’s all about Army-Navy. Well, maybe not, but since this is the game that truly matters for these two academies and their teams, I say it’s time for After Action to start hyping this baby up. USAA’s official Army-Navy game site is up and running, and it’s pretty sweet. The site is loaded with facts and information on the teams and the rivalry, including an interactive timeline showing the results and a recap of every single…
