You can’t deny Joe Paterno’s impact on college football, on sports. Paterno, who died Sunday at age 85 after a brief battle with lung cancer, prided himself on success with honor and dignity — hallmarks our armed forces strive for daily. Flyovers are cool — wicked cool, in fact. But you know, you want to keep your career alive, too. So two weeks ago, Air Force T-38 Talon pilots do a flyover before the Ohio State-at-Iowa game. The number of college football All-America lists might just outnumber the reasons the BCS-bowl system is a crock, but it’s still an achievement anytime a service academy player’s name winds up on one. Air Force cornerback Reggie Rembert was named first-team All America by the American Football Coaches Association. Other names found on the first-team list include Auburn quarterback and Heisman Trophy shoe-in Cam Newton as well as Oregon running back LaMichael James, who leads the nation in rushing.
