Caleb Campbell told After Action on Tuesday that he’d be signing a contract with the Detroit Lions “very, very soon,” and he followed through on that Thursday, signing a deal with the team before the start of rookie mini camp. Campbell’s bio page is already up on the Lions’ official website, and a short interview with Campbell was the top story on the site Friday morning. The terms of Campbell’s deal have not been disclosed yet.
I spoke with 1st Lt. Caleb Campbell yesterday to find out where he is in the process of leaving active duty and pursing a career in the NFL. Campbell is still on active duty and is stationed at Fort Sill, Okla., where he’s completing the Army’s BOLC II course. Graduation is scheduled for July 16, and the tentative plan is to leave active duty after that and join a field artillery unit in the Michigan National Guard. Today was apparently “sign a service member” day in the NFL. Former Army safety Caleb Campbell has been offered a contract by the Detroit Lions, according to goblackknights.com. This news comes on the heels of former Air Force Academy all-purpose man Chad Hall inking a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
