Not a good week so far for the service academy basketball teams. Both Army and Navy lost their Patriot League games last night. The losses come a day after Air Force lost its 22nd consecutive Mountain West Conference regular season game. Army went on the road and fell to first-place Lafayette. Cleveland Richard finished with a team-high 20 points, and Julian Simmons added 18 to lead the Black Knights. Army (12-8, 2-4) has lost three of their last four games. It’s all over in Annapolis. Navy senior guard Chris Harris exploded for 30 points in just 21 minutes of action to lead the Midshipmen to a win against Army. Harris shot 8-10 from the floor, including 4 of 4 from behind the arc. He also hit 10 of 11 free throws. Julian Simmons led Army with 16 points. Here’s a game story. Here’s the box score.

Class of the league: The Black Knights go into Patriot League play Saturday with the best record in the conference. West Point’s 10-4 start is a pleasant surprise  considering coach Zach Spiker was hired only 10 days before practice started when  Jim Crews was unexpectedly fired. The early turmoil has not distracted the team, and they’ve reeled off nine non-conference wins against Division I competition, a program record.
