The brilliant careers of Ricky Dobbs and the rest of the Navy seniors ended with a 35-14 loss to San Diego State on Thursday night in the Poinsettia Bowl. The Aztecs offense had too much firepower for Navy’s defense, finishing with 555 total yards. Freshman running back Ronnie Hillman led San Diego State’s attack, rushing for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Hillman also caught a touchdown at the beginning of the fourth quarter, which was effectively the back-breaker for Navy. Aztec junior quarterback Ryan Lindley threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns. It’s raining, heavily, in the San Diego area, and that means the river next to Qualcomm Stadium is overflowing, leaving the field a mess. Nonetheless, Poinsettia Bowl officials said tonight that they’re pressing ahead with tomorrow’s bowl game, scheduled to kick off at 8 p.m. and air on ESPN. Did I leave the space heater plugged in next to the Christmas tree? Those concerns aside, this is…
For the first time since 2002, the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy will not be residing in Annapolis, Md. Air Force, who beat Navy 14-6 earlier this season, completed the service academy sweep Saturday at Army, beating the Black Knights 42-22. Junior quarterback Tim Jefferson accounted for four touchdowns — two rushing, two passing — for the Falcons, who also became bowl-eligible with the win. Navy had held the CIC Trophy since taking it from Air Force seven seasons ago. According to The (Colorado Springs) Gazette, the trophy will be picked up from Annapolis on Sunday and arrive on Air Force’s campus sometimes this…
