Eddie LeBaron, a long-serving NFL quarterback known as “The Littlest General” thanks to his 5-foot-7 frame and stellar military record as a Marine officer during the Korean War, died Wednesday in Stockton, California. He was 85. LeBaron earned his commission in 1950 after graduating from the University of the Pacific, where his two-way play (QB on offense, safety on defense) netted him All-America honors as a senior. The LeBaron-led 1949 team went 11-0 and averaged 52 points per game, according to his online bio hosted by the College Football Hall of Fame, where he was enshrined in 1980. LeBaron signed with the…

Eric Kettani’s football career has been anything but typical: Graduate from Naval Academy, make New England Patriots practice squad, leave Patriots after request for leave from Navy is denied, return to Patriots’ practice squad after being granted an early release from active duty after all, get released by the Patriots, get signed by the Patriots again, then get released again and signed by the Washington Redskins. Now signed to a futures contract with the Redskins, Kettani can participate in offseason practices. After one such practice on Monday, he engaged in another atypical NFL activity — his head coach participated in his…

He also ran the ball three times for 13 yards, and he had seven punt returns for 76 yards.…

UPDATED: Crowston is not a pilot. After Action regrets the error. The copy in this post has been changed to reflect that. Not everyone ends up with a sexy Hollywood call sign like Maverick or Goose. Ensign Steve “Romo’s Bitch” Crowston is one of those Navy officers. Sailors in Strike Fighter Squadron 136 first suggested “Fagmeister” and “Gay Boy” as potential call signs for Crowston, who was clearly not well-liked within the squadron. Worried those call signs might be too offensive (you think?) they settled on “Romo’s Bitch,” referring to Tony Romo, the quarterback of Crowston’s favorite NFL team, the…
